PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLORIDA – UT Tyler women's golf sits in second place after day one of the National Preview at the Champion Course at PGA National that featured on and off rain and tough course conditions.
Karina Duran led the Patriots and the field on Monday with rounds of 73 and 74 to sit two shots clear. DBU leads the team standings by 10 over the Patriots.
Duran stayed steady throughout the day, leading the field in par four scoring at even par for the day. She also made the second most pars amongst the field while totaling four birdies over the first 36 holes.
Arnie Taguines would be second for the Patriots, currently sitting in a tie for fifth after rounds of 75 and 76. Taguines in her first round made 11 pars and a pair of birdies and then added 15 pars in her second round.
The Patriots scoring was rounded out by
Martha Laremark and
Lucy Kate Smith. Laremark fired rounds of 80 and 77 while Smith shot 77 and 81 as they sit in a tie for 27
th and a tie for 33
rd on the player leaderboard.
Also representing UT Tyler was
Emmerson Doyle, who is fourth on the leaderboard as an individual. She fired a first round 70, the second lowest round in round one in the field. She followed that up with a second round 80 and sits three shots back of Duran.
As a team, the Patriots rank second in par three scoring and third in par four scoring after two rounds. They have made the second most birdies in the field and sixth most pars.
Action will resume tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
