CORINTH, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's golf fired a first round 292 to kick off their season at the DBU Women's Classic on Monday afternoon.
Due to overnight storms, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes, with 18 being played per day.
The Patriots leaned on a brilliant effort from freshman newcomer
Lucy Kate Smith, who shot one under par in her round after four birdies to three bogeys. She sits three shots back on the individual leaderboard to first round leader Madison Ude of DBU.
Arnie Taguines and
Martha Laremark shot matching scores of 73 on Monday, and
Karina Duran rounded out the scoring on the team with a 75. Taguines and Laremark made five combined birdies and 29 total pars in a steady day for the pair. Duran would open up her season with a 75 that featured no birdies but 15 pars.
Lindsey Li and
Lilly Phelps would also compete as individuals for the program, with Li matching Smith's total at 71 and Phelps shooting 78.
The final round is set to begin on Tuesday at 8 a.m. as the Patriots look to kick off their 2025-26 season with a strong finish.
