AKUMAL, MEXICO – UT Tyler men's golf took the solo lead at the DII Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya on Monday after a second straight 299.
The Patriots hold a one shot lead over West Texas A&M and a two shot lead over UT Permian Basin and CSU Pueblo after the first 36 holes of action. Will Tate of UT Permian Basin holds the individual lead at one under par through 36 holes.
Monday's round was led by
Preston DeSerrano, who battled to an even par 72 with 13 pars, one eagle, and one birdie as it also featured a back nine 34. With the even par round, he vaulted himself seven shots up the leaderboard into a tie for 5
th at three over par.
Preston Chabaud followed up Sunday's opening 73 with a second straight 73. The freshman stayed steady, making 15 pars, two bogeys, and one birdie in his effort as he stays in a tie for third place at two over par.
The scoring was closed out by
Blake Harwell and
Connor Carver, who shot matching scores of 77. Harwell made four birdies in his round to help offset three double bogeys while adding in eight pars. Carver would add three birdies of his own, while adding one double and eight pars.
Round two at Tulum C.C. at PGA Riviera Maya saw the field average a 78.24, .6 shots less than Sunday. UT Tyler continues to hold the best par four scoring average at 4.17 and are now tied for the top spot in par three scoring at 3.18. The Patriots have the second most pars while totaling 16 birdies and one eagle.
Tomorrow's round gets rolling at 7:45 a.m. in a shotgun start format. The Patriots will be in the lead groups, starting on holes 1-4.
