PIERSON, MICHIGAN – UT Tyler men's golf sits in sixth place after day one of competition at the Pilgrim's Run Invite after rounds of 307 and 301.
Those scores put them at +24, just eight shots out of second place and 16 outside of first as West Texas A&M paced the field after firing -2 under par for the two rounds today.
Connor Carver paced the Patriots over both rounds as the freshman from Tyler put together scores of 74 and two under par 71 on the par 73 layout. He would total 10 birdies on the day to go along with seven bogeys, one double, and 18 pars. His second round of 71 moved him up eight places on the individual board.
Preston DeSerrano and
Ty Krismer would score matching 77's in the opening round, and the team scoring was rounded out by
Corbin Murray, who fired a 79.
DeSerrano and Krismer made seven combined birdies, while Murray added just one birdie and 11 pars.
The second round 301 featured Carver's 71, along with matching 76's from DeSerrano and
Luke Emerson, as well as a 78 from Krismer.
The tournament played to an average score of 79.03 in the first round and 78.44 in the second round, showcasing tough conditions. The Patriots played the par 5's in -2, third best in the field, and made the fourth most birdies in the field with 25.
Carver played the par 4's in dead even par today, tying for third in the field while also making the second most birdies with 10. He will sit seven shots back heading into the final round.
UT Tyler will tee off in Tuesday's final round at 7:30 a.m. CT.
