SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's golf sits in a tie for fifth place as a team with a pair of golfers inside the top 20 after day one of action at The Dominion C.C. in the Alamo City.
The Patriots shot rounds of 294 and 296 on day one to finish at 14 over par through the first 36 holes. Freshman
Preston Chabaud paced the team, shooting rounds of 70 and 72 to place himself in a tie for fourth and two shots out of the lead.
The freshman played nearly clean golf in round one, making four birdies to two bogeys on his way to a 70. Just behind him was the pair of
Blake Harwell and
Jacob Holloway, who shot matching rounds of 74. Harwell made a birdie and an eagle in his effort, while Holloway made a pair of birdies.
The final counting score in round one came from
Corbin Murray, who shot a 76 to open up his tournament with one birdie and 13 pars.
Round two saw an even par effort from Chabaud as he made five birdies to counter a pair of double bogeys and a bogey to stay level. Right behind him was Harwell and Murray, who both shot matching rounds of 73. The pair combined for six birdies and Murray added an eagle.
The final counting score in round two came from Holloway, who shot 78 in his effort with a trio of birdies.
Also competing for the Patriots on Monday was
Preston DeSerrano, who shot rounds of 77 and 81.
Braden Bergman and
George Trappey represented the Patriots as individuals. Bergman shot 76-80, and Trappey fired 80-79.
UT Tyler currently leads the field in par five scoring at 19 under par. They have the third most birdies and third fewest bogeys thus far.
Preston Chabaud ranks second in par four scoring at three under par and also leads in birdies and fewest bogeys.
UT Tyler will go back to work on Tuesday for an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start to complete The Rattler.
