SPRING, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's golf earned the team title and the individual title at The Southern Invite on Tuesday after a brilliant final round to hold off the competition at Cypresswood G.C.
The team title is the first for UT Tyler since all the way back in October of 2020 when they took the Oklahoma Intercollegiate. This is the first team title since officially transitioning to Division II in the fall of 2021.
Freshman
Lucy Kate Smith earned the individual title for her first career win. It is the first individual title since
Arnie Taguines won the 2025 version of this very event.
The Patriots got a key round from Taguines on Tuesday, where she carded an even par 72, the fourth lowest round in the field during the third round. She made a trio of birdies along with three bogeys to set the mark. She climbed 21 spots on the final day, finishing tied for 19
th.
Just behind her was Smith, who wrapped up her first collegiate victory with a two over par 74. She made four birdies on the day, closing her round with a back-nine 37 to take the crown.
The final two counting scores came from
Karina Duran and
Martha Laremark. Duran closed with 76 that featured a back-nine 36, and Laremark followed with a 78 that also featured a back-nine 37. The par would both finish five over par for the tournament, equaling a tie for third place on the leaderboard.
Emmerson Doyle also dropped in a 78 to close her final round, playing the final four holes in one over par with a birdie. She would finish alongside Taguines in a tie for 19
th.
Lindsey Li competed as an individual for the week, closing with an 80 and finishing 52
nd.
The Patriots a team led the field in par three and par five scoring, and ranked second in par four scoring. They had the second most pars and birdies, and led the field in fewest double bogeys or worse.
UT Tyler will now look forward to The Rattler, hosted by St. Mary's, on February 23rd and 24th in San Antonio, Texas.
