SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's golf sits in fourth place through 16 holes of the second round after the first day of play at The Rattler Invitational was suspended due to darkness on Monday evening.
The Patriots shot a first round 294 on Monday after an hour delay due to frost on the course. That round was spurred on by three rounds of 73, one each from
Arnie Taguines,
Martha Laremark, and
Karina Duran.
Taguines would make three birdies to four bogeys in her round, and Laremark would follow with the same statline. Duran would make a pair of birdies to counter one bogey and one double bogey.
The final counting score came from
Lucy Kate Smith, who shot a first round 75 that included three birdies and three bogeys.
Emmerson Doyle also competed in that first round, shooting 79.
In round two, Smith currently leads the charge as she stands one over par through 16 holes with a trio of birdies. Behind her is Taguines, who is three over par with three birdies. Doyle and Laremark currently make up the counting scores in round two, standing at six and seven over par each.
Lilly Phelps and
Lindsey Li represent the Patriots as individuals, shooting 78 and 81 respectively in the opening round.
The Patriots currently rank second in the field in par three scoring and are fourth in par four scoring midway through round two.
Smith and Taguines are currently leading the Patriots on the individual leaderboard, standing in a tie for 10
th.
UT Tyler is four shots back of third place Midwestern State and 19 back of second place St. Mary's. DBU currently holds the lead at two under par as a team.
Action is scheduled to resume at 8:15 Tuesday morning with the finishing of the second round. Teams will then continue into their final rounds with no re-pairing of groups.
