VISTA, CALIFORNIA – UT Tyler men's golf is 13 over par and in 10
th place after the first 36 holes at the CSU San Marcos Men's Fujikura Invitational on Monday.
Junior
Preston DeSerrano paced the Patriots with rounds of 69 and 74 to sit in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard. He would start his opening round one over through his first five holes, but played the next six holes in four under par before closing out the round with a birdie and a bogey to fire a first round 69. In round two, he made 14 total pars along with one birdie and three bogeys for a 74.
Jacob Holloway joined DeSerrano with a counting score in round one, shooting a one over par 73. He made 11 pars in that round, adding an eagle and two birdies. He followed up that effort with a 74 in round two, making 10 more pars along with two birdies for a second straight counting score.
The final two counting scores in round one belonged to
Corbin Murray and
Preston Chabaud, as they shot rounds of 75 and 77 while combining for four birdies.
Murray would rebound nicely in round two, shooting an even par 72 to lead the team as he made four birdies and four bogeys to go with 10 pars. Chabaud would be the final counting score of the second round, shooting a three over par 75 with a trio of birdies.
Connor Carver also competed for the Patriots and fired rounds of 79 and 76 on the day.
Blake Harwell is competing as an individual this week and is in a tie for 14
th place after two rounds at even par. The freshman shot a first round 75 before battling back with a three under par 69 that featured four birdies and 13 pars.
As a team, the Patriots are fourth in par five scoring average thus far at 4.70 and in total pars at 111. They lead the field in fewest double bogeys or worse. Both Holloway and DeSerrano played the par fives at a 4.38 average, good enough for second in the field. DeSerrano combined for 26 pars, ranking second in the field.
The Patriots will close out the event on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. They will tee off from holes 11-14 as they look to make up ground on a trio of nationally ranked opponents.
