BOULDER CITY, NEVADA – UT Tyler men's golf opened the Las Vegas Desert Classic with a team score of 300 in a loaded field at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
The Patriots opening round has them at 12 over par, just 11 shots back of first round leader Florida Southern. They sit just seven shots back of the top five after battling blustery conditions throughout the day.
UT Tyler's opening round was led by
Blake Harwell, who shot 73 after closing with a stretch of two under par over his last nine holes. He sits in a tie for 21
st.
Preston DeSerrano is just one shot back at 74, closing his round out at one under par over his final nine holes that also featured eight straight pars.
Corbin Murray would fall just behind DeSerrano at 75 for his first round. Like Harwell and DeSerrano, Murray closed out his round with a brilliant effort. He played his final eight holes in one under par, keeping the Patriots in the hunt.
Preston Chabaud was the final counting score on day one, shooting a first round 78. He made a trio of birdies along with eight pars.
Jacob Holloway also competed, shooting a non-counting 82.
Braden Bergman, competing as an individual this week, shot a first round 81.
UT Tyler now sets its sights on the second round on Monday, where they will look to make a climb up the leaderboard. The second round will begin at 8 a.m. local time, 10 a.m. central time, and the Patriots will tee off on holes 7-10 in a shotgun start.
