DESTIN, FLORIDA – #6 UT Tyler women's golf is off to a strong start at the three-day Emerald Coast Collegiate hosted by Missouri-St. Louis after a first round 287 to lead a strong field at Sandestin Resort & Club.
They hold a four shot lead over #10 ranked Flagler and were the only team to break the 290 barrier on day one of action.
Arnie Taguines sits in fourth place and both
Emmerson Doyle and
Lucy Kate Smith sit tied for 10
th.
Taguines led the team and was one of just six players to shoot under par as she opened with a first-round 70. She made a trio of birdies to go with 13 pars on the day.
Doyle and Smith fired matching rounds of 72 to sit inside the top 10. Doyle made three birdies to go with 12 pars, while Smith made two birdies to go with 13 pars.
Martha Laremark closed out scoring on day one, shooting 73 with a birdie and an eagle on her scorecard.
Karina Duran also competed on day one, narrowly missing out on a counting score as she shot 74 with 15 pars.
The Patriots are currently leading the field in par four scoring average at 4.18 and par five scoring average at 4.80. They are second in par three scoring average at 3.08. They are also second in total pars and lead the field in fewest bogeys and double bogeys.
Doyle is second in the field in par four scoring average at 3.89, and Taguines is tied for the lead in par five average at 4.50.
The Patriots will be back in action on Monday for round two of the three round event.
