Patriots, Laremark Lead LSC Championship After Day One

UT Tyler shot rounds of 291 and 292 and Martha Laremark sits at four under par to open up postseason play.

ROCKWALL, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's golf sits tied for the top spot on the leaderboard and Martha Laremark leads the individuals after a thrilling first day at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.

The Patriots shot rounds of 291 (+3) and 292 (+4) to sit in a tie with DBU for the top spot and sit ahead of third place West Texas A&M by five shots heading into Tuesday's final round.

Martha Laremark paced both the Patriots and the field on Monday with rounds of 71 and 69, one of just two players to shoot both rounds under par. Her day began with a three under 33 in her first nine holes, and was followed by a 38 to close her opening round at 71.

That second round started with a bogey, but Laremark responded by making five birdies over the next eight holes, making the turn with a 32. She played one over on the back nine, settling for a 69 on the scorecard and a one shot lead over the chase pack behind her.

Arnie Taguines is just five behind Laremark heading into Tuesday after rounds of 73 and 72 to sit seventh on the individual board. Her first round was up and down, featuring four birdies and five bogeys to go with nine pars. The second round of the day was more of the same, with four birdies canceling out four bogeys to shoot an even par 72.

Karina Duran would shoot even par in her first 18 holes of the day, providing a key counting score for the Patriots. She made three birdies and three bogeys to go with 12 pars in a steady round.

Emmerson Doyle would close out the scoring in round one, firing a three over par 75. After a back nine 38, she closed out her final two holes at one under par to shoot 37 on the front side, booking a 291 for the Patriots.

Round two was led by both Laremark and Taguines, and scores were also added in by both Doyle and Duran to lead the Patriots to a 292. Doyle responded to her first round 75 with a 73, making a pair of birdies and 13 pars. Duran would finish her day with a 78, making four birdies in the process.

Lucy Kate Smith would shoot 78 in the opening round for the Patriots while battling through injury. She would be subbed out for round two for teammate Lindsey Li, who shot 79 in the afternoon round.

The Patriots have their sights firmly set on the top four as a team, with those four teams qualifying for medal match play to determine the LSC Team Champion.

The Patriots individually will battle for a spot on the LSC All-Tournament Team. The top five finishers and ties will earn a spot on the team.
