ROCKWALL, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's golf has officially advanced into medal match play at the Lone Star Conference Championship for the first time in program history after finishing second overall in stroke play.
The Patriots 294 in the third round on Tuesday earned the No. 2 seed, just one shot behind DBU and ahead of both West Texas A&M and St. Mary's, who will be the other three teams competing in the medal match play portion on Wednesday.
Martha Laremark closed her tournament with a 72, finishing in a tie for runner up on the individual leaderboard and the highest finish in the Division II era of the program at the conference tournament. She made three birdies and three bogeys on her card, pairing that with 12 pars to finish three shots behind champion Brooke Yount of UT Dallas.
The Patriots team scoring was led by
Karina Duran, who vaulted 13 spots into a tie for eighth place on the leaderboard with a final round 70. She would shoot even par on the front nine with nine pars and then added four birdies to two bogeys on the back nine to close out with the two under par effort.
Emmerson Doyle and
Arnie Taguines closed out the team scoring with rounds of 75 and 77 as they finished in a tie for 11
th and solo 10
th, respectively. Doyle made a birdie and 13 pars in her round while Taguines made 10 pars and two birdies.
Lindsey Li shot a final round 87 on Tuesday in a non-counting score.
The No. 2 seed Patriots will now look ahead to medal match play against No. 3 seed West Texas A&M in the semifinal round on Wednesday morning. Pairings were selected by coaches following play on Tuesday. The format is medal match play, with each team racing to three wins via stroke play against their competitor.
