Patriots, Holloway 3rd After Day One of LSC Championship

UT Tyler is just three shots outside of the lead after the opening 36 holes of play at the LSC Championship.

ROCKWALL, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's golf is in third place at the Lone Star Conference Championship at 21 over par after two rounds at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
 
The Patriots shot rounds of 301 and 296 on day one to sit just three shots behind both Cameron and West Texas A&M, who are tied for the lead.
 
Senior Jacob Holloway sits in a tie for third on the individual leaderboard at two over par, just four back of David Vega Gerstel of West Texas A&M.
 
UT Tyler's opening round of 301 was the second best in the field, only beaten by West Texas A&M at 300. Their second round of 296 was the fifth best on the board.
 
A dazzling opening round of 71 from the senior spurred the Patriots early. His one under effort was tied for the best round of the field in tough conditions. He made three birdies to a pair of bogeys, shooting a 35 on the back nine.
 
Preston Chabaud would add to the tally with a 75, making a pair of birdies along with 11 pars.
 
Scoring in round one was capped off by Preston DeSerrano and Corbin Murray, who shot rounds of 77 and 78. The duo made just one birdie between them, but added 22 pars combined.
 
Round two saw the LSC Freshman of the Year in Blake Harwell get rolling, leading the team with an even par 72. He would make three birdies to counter one double bogey and one bogey, making 12 pars.
 
The Patriots were tight-knit as a team in round two behind Harwell, counting scores of 74, 75, and 75. Chabaud fired a 74, adding four birdies. Both Holloway and DeSerrano added rounds of 75, making five combined birdies between the two of them.
 
After two rounds, Chabaud sits in a tie for 12th, Harwell is tied for 17th, DeSerrano is tied for 24th, and Murray is tied for 36th.
 
As it stands, Cameron, West Texas A&M, UT Tyler, and UT Permian Basin would be the four teams into the medal match play portion of the tournament beginning on Wednesday.  
 
The field is set to take on round three tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
