GOODYEAR, ARIZONA – UT Tyler men's golf is in a tie for seventh place on the team leaderboard at the Palm Valley Classic after rounds of 281 and 284 at Palm Valley Golf Club on Monday.
UT Tyler sits 14 shots back of first place Chico State after day one and are just four shots back of the top three.
The Patriots leaned on the brilliant work of freshman
Blake Harwell on Monday, who shot rounds of 71 and 66 to find himself in a tie for sixth on the individual leaderboard. He made three birdies and an eagle on his way to a one under par effort in round one, but then caught fire in round two as he tied for the lowest round of the field in the afternoon effort. That second round featured flawless golf, with six birdies and 12 pars to go unblemished and vault him 27 spots on the individual leaderboard.
The rest of the first round scoring for the Patriots consisted of
Preston DeSerrano with a three under 69,
Preston Chabaud with a one under 71, and
Braden Bergman with a two under 70. DeSerrano made four birdies and an eagle to counter three bogeys. Bergman made a quartet of birdies in his effort, and Chabaud added a five birdie effort to finish under par.
Round two would see the Patriots finish three shots worse but still finish four under as a team. Behind Harwell's 66 was a one under par 71 from Chabaud, a one over par 73 from DeSerrano, and a two over par 74 from
Jacob Holloway. Chabaud countered his one double bogey with three birdies, and DeSerrano and Holloway combined for five birdies.
Both DeSerrano and Chabaud are tied for 35
th on the individual leaderboard, Holloway is tied for 68
th, and Bergman is tied for 83
rd.
Luke Emerson is competing for the Patriots as an individual, and he is tied for 83
rd after rounds of 73 and 76.
The Patriots have the third best scoring average on par fives thus far at 4.53, and also rank ninth in total pars and total birdies.
UT Tyler will be back in action for the final round tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT.
