HOW WE GOT HERE
After a storied season that featured one of their best regular seasons of the Division II era, the Patriots rolled into the LSC Tournament and promptly qualified for medal match for the first time. They would finish in a tie for third, but would continue their year in the NCAA West Regional Tournament.
In that west regional, the Patriots battled through chilly weather and tough conditions over 54 holes to finish fifth and take the final qualifying spot for the NCAA Championship. In that tournament run, both
Arnie Taguines and
Martha Laremark would lead the way, finishing in a tie for fourth on the leaderboard.
THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
This is the first appearance in the NCAA Championship for UT Tyler in the Division II era and first overall since the 2017 season. They have now qualified for a sixth time. Their results at those championships are strong, with a runner-up finish in 2013 and 2016, fourth place finishes in both 2014 and 2015, and a fifth place finish in 2017.
The tournament will take place at PGA National Resort – The Champions Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida from May 12-16. That course also plays host to the PGA Tour's Cognizant Classic and has hosted a Ryder Cup, PGA Championship, and Senior PGA Championship. It will play to a par of 72 and a maximum yardage of 6,211 yards.
The format will feature 54 holes of stroke play over the first three days of action. Those 54 holes will determine the NCAA Division II Individual Champion and the eight teams that will move forward into medal match play for the team title.
Both the quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on May 15, with the championship match taking place on May 16.
UT Tyler will be represented by
Martha Laremark,
Arnie Taguines,
Karina Duran,
Emmerson Doyle, and
Lucy Kate Smith in the starting five. Lindsay Li will be in the substitute role.
