PUEBLO, COLORADO – UT Tyler women's golf shot a first round 309 and is on pace for one shot worse in round two in blustery and tough conditions on Monday at the NCAA West Regional Championship at Pueblo Country Club.
The second round of the tournament was suspended due to darkness at 7:30 p.m. local time. Team's will finish their round at 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday and then re-pair for round three.
DBU has a two-shot lead at 34 over par over Cal State-San Marcus in second place, and both St. Mary's and CSU-Pueblo are tied for third at 45 over par.
UT Tyler was paced on the day by senior
Martha Laremark, who currently sits in a tie for second place after rounds of 76 and 71 as she was one of the golfers to finish her second round. Laremark's even par effort in round two featured three birdies and is one of just three level par scores in the second round.
Arnie Taguines shot 74 to open the tournament making a pair of birdies along with 12 pars. Behind her in scoring was Laremark, along with
Emmerson Doyle and
Lucy Kate Smith who shot 79 and 80, respectively. The two players would combine for 20 pars in their rounds, finishing just under the field average of 80.54 in the first round.
Taguines and Doyle also snuck in their second rounds before the horn for darkness sounded, firing rounds of 78 and 80. Taguines made three birdies and added in seven pars, while Doyle made two birdies and six pars.
As it currently stands, Smith holds on to the final counting score for round two. She will have one hole to play on Tuesday and is currently 10 over par.
UT Tyler is currently third in par four scoring and third in total pars as a team. Laremark is second in both par four and par five scoring average, and is also sixth in total pars.
The top five teams and top two individuals not on those teams will be selected into the NCAA Championship to be held May 12-16 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
